POINTS ON THE GAMBESCIA FAMILY
Facts resulting from this brief account are indeed sufficient to
bring to light and show the importance and honorability of this
family. This family counts among its activities many for the good of
their comunity and proven patriotism.
Impartial historians that have given us these notes all admit
and retain that the GAMBESCIA Family can well be written about in
the Golden Book of Italy's Noble families.
We repeat here the facts in brief.
The Gambescia family goes back to the thirteenth century under
the rule of the Kings of Angio. Originally among the Naples there was
Louis Gambescia, a Court Consultant; Carlo, a captain of Justice and
third, John Battista, who was in religion.
In the 1600's this family became divided and one group moved
into Abruzzi where it still flourishes.
During the French Occupation in the Marche and in Abruzzi the
family rebelled and joined the Church States.
This noble family had among its members a very noted poet
Innocenzo Gambescia whose poems were greatly praised and read in
Italian literature.
It seems that this family belonged to the Ghibellini party until
the battle of Monteaperti when they were persecuted and sent into
exile by members of the Guelfi party.
(The parties of the Guelfi and Ghibellini were joined in Italy
from far off Germany. As a result we had a group that went
along with the Emperors or the Ghibellini and those who
followed the Pope or the Guelfi).
The Crest of the Gambescia's as reported from the records in
Naples presents the following:
- The Coat of Arms shows the shield of gold seperated by a
sawlike bank of red and blue.
- The upper part has two lions facing each other with fiery
tongues.
- The helmet crest represents their party - Ghibellini.
- The colors of the surrounding leather scroll-like design are
representative of the Gambescia Family,that is, red and blue
This is a very brief recount of the historical notes of the
Noble Gambescia Family. These points can be greatly extended if
wanted to form a more precise chronological story. |
